Essence Beauty Beats 2-in-1 Eyeliner Pen

♫ 林宥嘉 - 浪费

It's no surprise that I'm quite the Essence fan, ever since I discovered their products online and locally, not to mention their huge range of products and pocket-friendly pricing. After lamenting the lack of new collections in our local stores, I was glad to finally see them release the [not so new] Beauty Beats/Justin Bieber trend collection, which is from last year. (Note: I am not a Justin Bieber fan.)

I spotted this one at one of the smaller Watson's stores, and couldn't decide between this eyeliner pen and the blusher. Ended up buying the eyeliner pen because I'm a total sucker for gimmicky stuff like a double-ended eyeliner. (⌒_⌒;)

Essence Beauty Beats 2-in-1 Eyeliner Pen
The eyeliner pen is slightly longer than your average eyeliner, probably because it is double-ended, with a 'thin' fine-tip end and a 'thick' chisel-tip end. The fine tip end is considerably softer than the thicker chisel-tip end, although both are felt-tipped 'marker pen' style eyeliners.

The 'thin' end
The 'thick' end
As you can see from the swatches, the fine tip is very watery and not very pigmented at all, and looks more brown than black. The thick end though, is quite pigmented.

Unfortunately, this eyeliner is NOT waterproof at all. A gentle swipe with water effectively smudged away half the line, while a slightly firmer rub more than removed it completely. How Justin Bieber fans are supposed to scream and cry at their idol while wearing this eyeliner without it making a mess on their face is beyond me. ಠ_ಠ
Waterproof? Nuh-uh.

If you're looking to experiment with eyeliner, or have really really dry eyes/don't sweat at all, this could be okay, I guess. Both ends work well to give you different looks, from thin faint lines to thicker bold lines.

I am seriously kicking myself now for buying this eyeliner instead of the blusher. (-__-;) The blusher, which retails at RM 14.90, is 2 bucks cheaper and has more product, not to mention more value for money than this gimmicky, non-waterproof eyeliner. (¬_¬) Oh well, as far as lessons go, at least this is considered cheap at RM 16.90, ha!

Thanks for the review! I guess anything to do with Justin Bieber is a failure!

Arpita: Haha! This eyeliner sure was a failure, but I'm still keeping some hope for the blusher. There weren't any testers for the blusher at the store. :( However, essence products in general are still pretty okay, especially their nail polish. :D

You look great with cat wing eyeliner! You should do it more often. :)

Although the Essence eyeliner I bought was labelled as waterproof, it just didn't work at all. I got panda eye in the end >.< However, their other products are surprisingly good.

Ooh! I nearly bought this eyeliner at Watsons Sunway Pyramid but ended up not purchasing anything as I didn't find anything that struck my fancy. Love your honest review! <3

+1 for the Thin and thick sides! but Uhh... it's a no-no for non waterproof eyeliner for me.. even waterproof and smudge proof ones will smudge a little on my eye.. >_<

+1 for thin and thick sides but it's definitely a no for non waterproof. Girls nowadays just can't live without waterproof any more.. lol

Why on earth is the colour so different? Do you think you got a faulty piece?

And my goodness, it'd smudge within seconds on my watery, oily lids =.=

That smudges real bad..I can imagine panda eyes after a few hours..lol

Oh no, I can never use liner that isn't waterproof. In fact, with my oily lids, I should be wearing really be waterproofing everything.

Products are hit and miss with Essence but they do have some good things that are priced at a song.

You're right, I do stick to their nail products. I've found a dupe for a Sally Hansen item that was better than the SH version!
