Review: Lancôme Advanced Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate

♫ Akdong Musician (AKMU) - 200%

Hello, pretty peeps! (◕‿◕✿)

If you follow my Instagram, you've probably seen me post this picture, saying I'll be trying out this serum by Lancôme. Well, here's what I think about it after 2 weeks of use.

Key features
The Lancôme Advanced Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate helps restore youthfulness by improving the appearance of 10 clinical signs that define youthful-looking skin:
  • Fewer fine lines
  • Smoothens deep wrinkles
  • Radiance
  • Clarity
  • Skin texture
  • Even skin tone
  • Resiliency
  • Tonicity
  • Firmness
  • Hydration
Lancôme has always impressed me with its elegant and minimalist style for its products, and this one is no exception. The serum comes in a sleek black glass bottle with silver accents, and packed in a glossy black box with the iconic Lancôme rose logo on top. I love how the bottle feels solid and luxe in my hands.

Exclusive advanced self-loading dropper
It is claimed that the exclusive advanced self-loading dropper gives you the perfect dose of serum for each application, and I can't help but agree. The dropper dispenses just the right amount of serum for me to gently massage onto my face and neck before being fully absorbed.

How to apply Advanced Génifique
Start your daily beauty ritual with one pump of Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate, applied evenly across your face and neck. Gently massage the formula using your fingertips to create a re-plumping, cocooning sensation to the skin.
As it is essentially a serum, I apply it after my toner, then continue with moisturizer afterwards.

As for the texture of the serum, it is slightly viscous but runny enough to enable you to massage into your skin using your fingertips before it is completely absorbed. After application, it hardly feels like you've put anything on your face, and you can continue with your regular moisturizer and make up routine. (In fact, a few times I've completely skipped moisturizer because the serum itself feels super nice on my skin. ⌒_⌒;) Bonus: there's no sticky, greasy or silicone-y feeling!

Results (after 2 weeks)
Friends' comments on Instagram when I posted I'd be using this was 'Do you really need to use this?' (≧∇≦) Admittedly, this serum is targeted more towards more mature demographics, but something I've learnt along the (blogging) way is that anti-aging skincare has to start early. I might not have concerns about elasticity or firmness yet, but most skin analyses I've been to have told me that I'm starting to have fine lines. (T_T) If I'm getting lines now, can you imagine what will happen in another 20 years?! ಠ_ಠ

In the before/after photo above, you can clearly see an improvement in my skin condition. Skin tone difference aside (that is mainly due to different lighting conditions), my skin looks slightly smoother, especially around the eyes.

The Verdict

Would I recommend this? Absolutely.
If you're looking for a serum to help maintain or restore your skin's youthfulness, you might want to give this a try. Judging from my own experience, as well as the reviews on Lancôme USA's site, it works for people from all age ranges, from 25-65. It definitely makes my skin feel soft as silk, supple and youthful after using, and the results have been positive without any bad side-effects.

Want to try it for yourself? Visit the Lancôme Malaysia site now and redeem your 7-day trial to see results within a week of use! ;)

The Lancôme Advanced Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate is available at all Lancôme counters and retails at RM275 for 30ml, RM360 for 50ml, and RM485 for 75ml.

Dolce & Gabbana The One For Men 2014 Limited Edition

Have you found The One yet?

Dolce & Gabbana celebrates the timeless elegance of The One and The One for Men with luxurious new Limited Edition Gold and Platinum bottles.

Brimming with natural presence and charm, The One is the epitome of classicism and modernity. For women, The One is at once warm and enigmatic, a reflection of its wearer, preserving its sparkling splendor for those fortunate enough to capture it. The One for Men is its masculine counterpart, full of sophistication: engaging and exhilarating; a scent for the man who cannot help but command the attention of those around him.

Today, I'll be sharing my thoughts on the Dolce & Gabbana The One For Men 2014 Limited Edition eu de toilette, which comes in a very solid, and reflective, platinum-coloured bottle.

Dolce & Gabbana The One For Men 2014 Limited Edition
Top notes: Grapefruit, Coriander, Basil
Middle notes: Cardamon, Ginger
Base notes: Tobacco, Amber, Cedar

Perfumes 'work' on individuals based on their chemistry with the fragrance, but personally I think that this one will smell good, if not great, on and to most people. The initial spritz has a very refreshing scent, which quickly mellows down to a deeper fragrance. What I like most, however, are the woody base notes, which gives the scent a mature yet classy feel. On the flip side, the scent doesn't carry well from a distance, but is noticeable at close proximity. Longevity is average. Great for dates when you're sitting close together, not so great if you're trying to attract attention half a room away (which you shouldn't be, if you're wearing this).

It's the type of fragrance that is classy, sophisticated, and masculine without being overly macho.

I know this is a fragrance for men, but the bottle is just so beautiful, I'm tempted to keep it for myself (if only just for display, ha! #foreveralone). Plus the bottle is so reflective, it works as well as any mirror.

Not to mention it's the perfect partner for my favourite perfume.
So hey, if you haven't gotten your dad a (belated) Father's Day present yet, or cracking your head thinking of what to buy for your significant other's special day, this might just be The One! (¬‿¬)

Tutorial: Rainbow Sponge Manicure

♫ Infinite - Last Romeo

Rainbow hair, rainbow cake, rainbow clothes... everything's getting so colourful these days, so why not let your nails join the rainbow party too, right?

Today I'll be doing a tutorial on how to achieve this super cute rainbow manicure using the sponging method. You'll need to prepare several things before starting:

  • Base coat
  • White nail polish
  • 3-4 coloured nail polishes (colours are up to your preference)
  • Makeup sponge
  • Top coat
  • Nail polish remover and Q-tip
The end result should look something like this. :)

Step 1: apply a layer of base coat to protect your nails from staining by the nail polish.
Step 2: Once the base coat dries, apply a layer (or two) of white nail polish. The white nail polish acts as a base for your rainbow colours, which makes the colours adhere and show up more vibrantly. Make sure your base colour is fully dry before going on to the next step.

Step 3: Pick your desired combination of nail polish colours, and apply them in strips on the makeup sponge. I chose the Color Club neon collection for a more vibrant look, and the makeup sponges were bought from Daiso. Alternatively, you can use pastel colours for a sweet, girly rainbow manicure.(✿◠‿◠)

Step 4: Gently dab the sponge onto your nail. You'll have to act fairly quickly after painting the strips of polish on the sponge before they start to dry up. (Check out the GIF below!)

Step 5: Once you're happy with how it looks, seal the design with a layer of top coat. This will help smoothen out the nail art and give it a glossy shine.

Step 6: Finally, remove any excess nail polish from your skin and cuticles using a Q-tip or small brush dipped in nail polish remover.

Repeat the steps for all nails (or maybe you can try it as an accent nail), and *poof!* rainbow manicure complete! (。✪‿✪。)ノ
Psst... You can also view/download the full pictorial from my Pinterest! :)

I've been struggling with rainbow manicures and the sponging method for quite a while now, and although this isn't exactly up to the standard of what I've seen from other awesome nail bloggers and artists online, I'd say this is a good start. :)

That said, I'm pretty pleased with this particular manicure, and one benefit I did not foresee from using these scented Color Club polishes is that my nails smell sweet as candy now! (≧∇≦) I can't wait to try a pastel rainbow sponge manicure next time. :3

Rainbows are awesome.
Now, where's my unicorn? (¬‿¬)

Review: L'Oreal Paris White Perfect Total 10 All-In-One Whitening Day Cream (SPF 30 PA+++)

♫ 方大同 - 好不容易

Everybody wants to achieve that perfect 10, right?
Well, L'Oreal aims to help you achieve that perfect score for skin, with their all-new White Perfect Total 10 All-In-One Whitening Day Cream with SPF 30 PA+++.

This new and improved version of L'Oreal's bestselling White Perfect range of skincare promises intense whitening and full protection for your skin, with 10 benefits for fairer and shine-free skin!
  • Instant glow
  • Fairer skin
  • Even tone
  • Anti-dark spots
  • Anti-shine effect
  • Anti-pollution
  • Anti-UVA
  • Anti-UVB
  • Anti-oxydation
  • Anti-oiliness effect
Phew! That's a lot of benefits in one palm-sized bottle, eh? You're probably wondering how it fares, so on with the review!

The product comes packaged in a plastic bottle with a pump dispenser. Pretty standard issue, but it's a design that works and is convenient.

A gentle pump should dispense enough product for your whole face. Unlike the White Perfect Laser Day Cream (review here), this White Perfect Total 10 Day Cream has a slight lilac tinge and higher SPF. Once blended out, I find that it instantly makes my skin look brighter. I suspect it has a slight color-correcting function, as lavender shades can help to normalize yellow undertones and sallow skin. :)

(Click for larger image)
The ingredients list and manufacturing date can be found at the bottom of the box, and also on the bottle itself.

My thoughts?

Compared to the White Perfect Laser range, I find that this Total 10 day cream is gentler on my skin. The cream's texture is fairly lightweight, blends easily and absorbs quickly. Besides that, the SPF 30 is a definite improvement, especially on days when you need to go out but don't want to apply makeup just to buy some groceries. (⌒_⌒;)  It does has a slight scent though, which lingers a bit after application, so if you're sensitive to scents, I'd suggest you test it out before purchasing. It does keep my skin moisturized without feeling overly greasy or shin, but my T-zone still shows some shine after a few hours. On my normal combination skin, it works quite well throughout the day and most importantly, did not sting or cause any breakouts.

The L'Oreal Paris White Perfect Total 10 All-In-One Whitening Day Cream SPF 30 PA+++ (50ml) retails at RM 39.90, and is available at all major pharmacies and supermarkets.

Essence Beauty Beats 2-in-1 Eyeliner Pen

♫ 林宥嘉 - 浪费

It's no surprise that I'm quite the Essence fan, ever since I discovered their products online and locally, not to mention their huge range of products and pocket-friendly pricing. After lamenting the lack of new collections in our local stores, I was glad to finally see them release the [not so new] Beauty Beats/Justin Bieber trend collection, which is from last year. (Note: I am not a Justin Bieber fan.)
I spotted this one at one of the smaller Watson's stores, and couldn't decide between this eyeliner pen and the blusher. Ended up buying the eyeliner pen because I'm a total sucker for gimmicky stuff like a double-ended eyeliner. (⌒_⌒;)

Essence Beauty Beats 2-in-1 Eyeliner Pen
The eyeliner pen is slightly longer than your average eyeliner, probably because it is double-ended, with a 'thin' fine-tip end and a 'thick' chisel-tip end. The fine tip end is considerably softer than the thicker chisel-tip end, although both are felt-tipped 'marker pen' style eyeliners.

The 'thin' end
The 'thick' end
As you can see from the swatches, the fine tip is very watery and not very pigmented at all, and looks more brown than black. The thick end though, is quite pigmented.

Unfortunately, this eyeliner is NOT waterproof at all. A gentle swipe with water effectively smudged away half the line, while a slightly firmer rub more than removed it completely. How Justin Bieber fans are supposed to scream and cry at their idol while wearing this eyeliner without it making a mess on their face is beyond me. ಠ_ಠ
Waterproof? Nuh-uh.

If you're looking to experiment with eyeliner, or have really really dry eyes/don't sweat at all, this could be okay, I guess. Both ends work well to give you different looks, from thin faint lines to thicker bold lines.

I am seriously kicking myself now for buying this eyeliner instead of the blusher. (-__-;) The blusher, which retails at RM 14.90, is 2 bucks cheaper and has more product, not to mention more value for money than this gimmicky, non-waterproof eyeliner. (¬_¬) Oh well, as far as lessons go, at least this is considered cheap at RM 16.90, ha!

Tokidoki Pop Up Store & Exhibition @ Kuala Lumpur

Just to make one thing abundantly clear: I am a big Tokidoki (TKDK) fan. More specifically, I am a huge fan of TKDK's Unicorno character(s), which comes in a variety of designs. This magical little unicorn is the embodiment of everything I love that is cute, fluffy, colourful, and of course, unicorns!

So of course, I totally freaked out (internally) when I got wind of the news that Tokidoki had finally set up a pop-up store and exhibition in Kuala Lumpur! Many thanks to Rane, who blogged about it on Friday, which made me decide to check it out the very next day. Also much ♥ to my BFF who spent half the day there with me and helped me to take awesome photos. (๑>◡<๑)

Super cute standees at the entrance of Fahrenheit88
So cute and colourful I can't-
Step inside the mall and you'll be greeted by a larger than life Kaiju, followed by Adios and White Tiger. :3

Three other Tokidoki character statues were scattered around the concourse area.

Gosh, if only I could bring that Unicorno back home. (⊙‿⊙✿) HAHAHA

There was a section where they were displaying Tokidoki collaboration goods (unfortunately not for sale). Spotted the Karl Lagerfield x TKDK vinyl figurines, the Hello Kitty x TKDK plushie, Onitsuka Tiger x TKDK shoes, Marvel x TKDK merchandise, and also the super awesome Sol Republic x TKDK headphones which have been on my wishlist since forever. T_T

They do have t-shirts, vinyl figurines, plushies, blindboxes, and notebooks for sale at the pop-up store.

There was a meet and greet at 2.30 p.m., so I got to meet Tokidoki creator Simone Legno, and get a Unicorno sketch from him! (。✪‿✪。)
That's him signing my Tokidoki wallet ≧∇≦
Got a personally sketched Unicorno from the creator himself!
While waiting in line for the meet and greet, I was like 'OMG he's doing sketches for us!'. When it was my turn, I straightaway told him 'Could you draw me a Unicorno please?' and I also requested him to add the rainbow clouds, haha~ Thank you so much! ♥

This is my current collection of Tokidoki stuff. :3 I need more Unicornos! And yes, I got home and laminated the sketch wtflol

Also, just my luck to buy the blindbox and get the only Unicorno without a horn wtf. Well, at least it's special because it has a mohawk instead? LOL

The Tokidoko pop up store and exhibition will be held at Fahrenheit88 for a month until 29th June, so get your butts over there and drown in the cuteness while they're in town! (¬‿¬)
