Review: KLAVUU Urban Pearlsation Shimmer Eyeshadow in Rose Gold

♫ MXM (BRANDNEW BOYS) - Good Day

I'll let you know if I ever get around to actually blogging about my Korea trip, but in the meantime, I just have to share with you this skincare and cosmetics brand that I discovered there.

This is an eyeshadow single from South Korean brand KLAVUU, and is part of their Urban Pearlsation Shimmer Eyeshadow makeup range. The shade I have here is Rose Gold, and it is absolutely beautiful. 😍 The two other eyeshadow ranges are Glitter and Matte.

I was actually just heading out to get my long-awaited breakfast from Paris Baguette, but got a little lost in Myeong Dong (the place is enormous) and came across a huge corner shop with an unfamiliar brand name. I still had some time to take a quick look, so I popped in and started browsing - because makeup > breakfast, obviously 😏 #priorities - and was approached by the friendly SA who introduced me to their products. Unlike all the other stores I'd visited in South Korea so far, this particular SA spoke very fluent English, which was a very pleasant surprise indeed. (Most, if not all, of the SAs spoke Mandarin Chinese instead, which was weird but not a problem for me.)

I later found out that this was their flagship store in Myeong Dong which had only opened its doors about a week ago! As I was the first customer that morning, she even gave me a pack of samples (normally only given to those purchasing above $50) even though this tiny eyeshadow was the only thing I bought, lol.

Pro tip: If you're looking to score some good deals/extra freebies, make sure you go early and be the first customer, because they believe it's bad luck if the first customer to walk in doesn't buy anything! 😉

Basically, KLAVUU products are based on the concept of clean beauty and natural, pearl-clear radiant skin, and its product ranges are infused with marine pearl extract. I had never heard of the brand prior to this encounter, so I didn't really know what to expect, but judging from its price point, I'd say it's in the slightly higher-end category, along the lines of Laneige and IOPE, but not as pricey as Sulwhasoo or History of Whoo.

Alright, I've rambled on enough. You're here for the eyeshadow review, so I'll get on with it. 😆

The eyeshadow is housed in a simple grey plastic flip cover packaging, with the brand name embossed on the transparent lid and the shade name printed on a sticker on the bottom. It does feel a little plasticky, but it's fairly sturdy and Each eyeshadow has 1.9g of product, and is made in Korea.

I specifically requested the SA to recommend a shade that can be worn as a single colour on the lids - that wasn't a variation of brown - and she suggested Rose Gold, which is also one of their bestselling shades. It's a very lovely colour, and is true to actual rose gold: a shimmery gold coral with just a hint of pink. Even their eyeshadow contains mother-of-pearl, which gives it that pretty glow. 💓

The colour payoff is very good; while it's not as crazy pigmented as some Western brands, I really like the smooth buttery texture, and 1-2 swipes is enough to show up on the lids. You can also layer it for more intense colour (but that kinda defeats the aesthetics of Korean simple makeup). There's no fallout when applying, and it lasted for a good 6 hours without eyeshadow primer, with some slight fading at the end of the day.

This little treasure is definitely staying in my everyday makeup stash!

Klavuu is not available in Malaysia (at the moment), so if you're in Seoul, do visit their flagship store in MyeongDong to test their products. You can check out their English website www.en.klavuu.com too, which offers international shipping!
